These notes describe observed behavior of GP2 track marking commands. Some fields were still unknown when the original note was written, so values marked as Unk should be treated as practical editing notes rather than complete documentation.
Dotted Line Start Position
0x8A / Unk(1)
Unk(1) controls where the dotted lines begin. Higher values move the start point farther along the track. For example, a value of 0 makes the dotted lines start immediately after the yellow line stops.
The original note recommends testing the value in-game if the behavior is not clear.
Track Marking Commands Near the End of the Track
In one of the last sections of the track, there are two 0x8B commands and one 0x8A command.
Grip Lines and Finish Line
One 0x8A and one 0x8B are used for the grip lines on the track. For these grip lines, Unk(6) is 513.
The finish line uses 0x8B with Unk(6) set to 257.
Starting Grid Lines
Command Assignments
0x8A controls the left starting grid lines.
0x8B controls the right starting grid lines.
Known Fields
- Unk(1)
- Same behavior as Unk(1) in 0x8A, described above.
- Unk(2)
- Vertical movement of the grid. Higher values move the grid more to the right.
- Unk(3)
- Number of starting lines. GP2 standard value is 13.
- Unk(4)
- Vertical movement of the grid. Higher values move the grid more to the right.
- Unk(5)
- Vertical movement of the grid. Higher values move the grid more to the right.
- Unk(6)
- Length/thickness of one line. GP2 standard value is 513.
Unk(2), Unk(4), and Unk(5) appear to be similar and may look the same in practice. The original author suggests checking this visually in-game.
These commands are not vital for the track to function.
Starting Line / Finish Line
0x8B with Unk(6) = 257
0x8B with Unk(6) set to 257 is the start/finish line.
- Unk(1)
- Horizontal movement of the start/finish line. Lower values move it farther down the grid.
- Unk(2)
- Unknown. The original note says values other than 8456 create strange results. GP2 standard value is 8456.
- Unk(3)
- Number of starting lines. The GP2 standard value is 1.
- Unk(4)
- Not used, unless a second start/finish line is needed. GP2 standard value is 0.
- Unk(5)
- Not used, unless a second start/finish line is needed. GP2 standard value is 0.
- Unk(6)
- Unknown. The original note says values other than 257 create strange results. GP2 standard value is 257.
