# Long Beach 1982 for Grand Prix 2

This track is a recreation of the Long Beach street circuit as it appeared for the **1982 United States Grand Prix West**.

The track layout, scenery, buildings, advertisements, and other details were recreated using period photographs, race footage, maps, and other available references. Because reference material from the 1982 event is limited, some scenery required interpretation or reconstruction based on the best information available.

## Compatibility

Long Beach 1982 was intentionally built within the traditional GP2 track limitations.
The track DAT remains below the original **65 KB track size limit**, and the graphics remain within the original **JAM size limitations**. The track does not require any of the newer experimental GP2Lap extensions that allow these original limits to be exceeded.
In other words, no extended track or JAM size support is required to use this track.

### GP2x86 Users
The installation instructions in this README are written for a traditional GP2 installation, which is how this track was developed and tested.
Many players now use **GP2x86**, which provides its own more convenient methods for managing tracks and associated files. I do not currently use GP2x86 myself, so I have not included specific instructions for it rather than risk providing inaccurate information.
GP2x86 users can install the included DAT, JAM, setup, and Magic Data files using their normal GP2x86 track management method.

## Included Files
The files included are as follows:
### long_beach_1982_by_samsepi0l_(slot_f1ct04).dat
This is the track itself and goes in the GP2 **CIRCUITS** folder.
I highly recommend using **slot 4 (the original GP2 Monaco slot)**. This track was developed and tested in this slot.
The easiest method is to temporarily rename your original `f1ct04.dat` file to something else as a backup. Then rename:
   `long_beach_1982_by_samsepi0l_(slot_f1ct04).dat`
   to:
   `f1ct04.dat`
and place it in your **CIRCUITS** folder.
**Do not overwrite your original `f1ct04.dat` without making a backup.**

### lbeach82.csd
This is a standard GP2 car setup file and goes in the game's **GPSAVES** folder.
Since Long Beach 1982 was developed from slot 4 in the original GP2, it uses the Monaco car setup file extension `.CSD`. The "D" corresponds to slot 4 because D is the fourth letter of the alphabet.

### LBEACH82 folder
This folder contains the JAM graphics used by the track.
Place the entire **LBEACH82** folder in your GP2 **GAMEJAMS** folder.

### slot_04_long_beach82_magic_data.m2d
This is a Magic Data file for **rremedio's Magic Data Editor**.
It contains the tweaked Magic Data values developed and tested specifically for this track.

## Special Thanks
**Paul Hoad** — for creating the GP2 Track Editor and making it open source, allowing us to continue studying, understanding, and reverse engineering the GP2 track format.
**rremedio** — for creating the genius **CCEdit** tool, which finally allows us to create and edit CC-lines the way we have wanted to be able to do for 30 years.
**MichaelR** — for the inspiration provided by his excellent GP2 tracks. The quality of his work gives me a standard to aim for with my own tracks.
